Frank Zaremba, MNEC Award – Monochrome Image of the Year
Tiny Dancer
This is a beautifully composed image with a lovely use of negative space.

Judy Rabinowitz Alternate Class – Photo Travel Award
The Specialty of the House
This is an image that conveys a feeling of time and space. I love the color palette with the white aprons and color words vs. her red shirt with the white piping

Patrick K. Doherty Photo Travel Award
Denali Delight
This is nicely composed with enough space to understand the magnitude of this landscape but cropped appropriately to keep the eye focused on the lovely fall tundra colors.

Nathan Gutman Memorial Award – Best Creative Image of the Year
Hollow Eyes
This could be the poster for some creepy Halloween movie! I love the almost duo-tone palette and the focus. Great use of vignetting.

John R. Kennedy Memorial Award – Portrait of the Year
Sandy by Nature
This is a beautifully composed portrait. The camera angle, shallow depth of field, focus, and framing are all executed well.

Ed Emmons Memorial Award – Best Alternate Class Nature Image
Eating Green
Lovely focus and depth of field here. The green inchworm really demonstrates the importance of camouflage as it matches the perfectly blurred background.

Robert Strindberg Memorial Award – Best Nature Image of the Year
Voracious Milkweed Tussocks
The angle of this image with the caterpillars poking out at the edge of the leaf adds to the storytelling of this phase of their lifecycle. To see so many on one leaf really brings this image and the composition to life.

Patrina / Metzger Award – Alternate Class Best Image of the Year
Hidden
The color and composition are outstanding. What really makes this image is the whimsy of both feet protruding out from under the leaf.

John McGarry Award – Best Image of the Year
Bad Bear, Good Bear
This is a very powerful image that kept me coming back to linger on it a while longer. The lighting is perfection with the beautiful, subtle highlights in the darker left side of the image. The snow on the forehead and snout add to the image.
